Antony Hamilton will join the SPARKS project in the capacity of an advisor
Internationally renowned Australian choreographer Antony Hamilton will bring strong choreographic expertise to the project; reflecting his experience as an independent artist, as well as artistic director of the acclaimed company Chunky Move.
Antony Hamilton is joining the SPARKS project. His choreographic practice involves a sophisticated melding of movement, sound and visual design. Hamilton's works are underpinned by an examination of the body, at once primitive, contemporary and future bound. They also explore the body at the point of interface with new ideas, materials and contexts, and the human capacity to meet the challenge of reinventing itself at the threshold of change.
In 2013, Hamilton was Resident Director of Lucy Guerin Inc and in 2014 he worked as a guest dance curator at The National Gallery of Victoria. He was also the inaugural International Resident Artist at Dancemakers Toronto from 2016 to 2018. In 2019 he created his first work as AD of Chunky Move.
A respected and award-winning choreographer, he has received four Helpmann Award nominations and two awards. He has received numerous Green Room Awards and The New York Dance & Performance Arts Bessie Award for Outstanding Production.
Hamilton has been the recipient of prestigious fellowships from Bangarra Dance Theatre, the Tanja Liedtke Foundation, the Australia Council for the Arts and the Sidney Myer Foundation.
Sparks advisors have been invited to work directly with the artists by sharing their knowledge and being a sounding board throughout the project. Advisors are Mathilde Monnier, Antony Hamilton, Bia Oliveira and Katherine Profeta.
