Dance House Helsinki is looking for a Head of Technical Department

Dance House Helsinki is a cultural space for the needs of the audience and creator, now and especially in the future. We want to provide holistic experiences and thoughtfully designed customer experiences that enable dance to increase in audience numbers and revenue. Dance House Helsinki opens in the spring 2022.


At the moment, the construction of the building is in progress. Construction began in October 2019 and the estimated handover will take place at the end of 2021. We are now defining our core technical specifications, services and operational model.

As Head of Technical Department, you are part of our Executive Board, reporting directly to the director. You are responsible for the technical development of the future house during the construction project and after. As a voice of the user, you supervise the whole process from our perspective. Your main task is to achieve a house that works for our set goals and our operations.

Your role as Head of Technical Department during the construction is to:

  • ensure our technical ownership of the house; 

  • create an understanding of the design parameters and resources within the venues and implement it to our operational plans;

  • develop a technical staffing structure, operating model and the venue’s technical specifications; 

  • plan the testing and handover process; 

  • generate the venue’s opening schedule; and

  • recruit and lead the technical department.

After the handover you will:

  • take part in the strategic and operational planning of the house,

  • implement our strategy in the technical department,

  • maintain and develop our technical resources and operations,

  • make sure that our technical resources are aligned with our users’ needs, and

  • lead the technical department and outsourced technical services.

You have a deep understanding of the technical requirements of a receiving house for dance. We are looking for a person who is multi-skilled in terms of performance tech. You should have:

  • managerial experience and strong operational competence;

  • extended understanding of performance tech;

  • a strong track record of the technical development of performing arts venues;

  • good knowledge of dance production, especially from a receiving house perspective; and

  • full working proficiency in English, Finnish is appreciated.
