Introduction
Expressed through a combination of visual theatre, object manipulation, and comical absurdity, Blueberry Burdock dances playfully in a place of limbo.
Blueberry Burdock is a visually enchanting limbo created from an overabundance of literal and metaphorical directions. It’s a performer's journey overwhelmed by an overabundance of options as contradictions and inner conflicts manifest in vivid displays. Within this symbolic landscape of existence, the performer becomes entangled in conflicting signposts and constructs a room of moving walls and half-objects. This puzzle embodies the intricate tapestry of human experience and represents a fragmented reality.
Blueberry Burdock, directed by New Zealander Thom Monkton, premiered at Stoa in 2023. Since then, it has toured in Britain and Germany. Now, the performance arrives at the Dance House Helsinki, where Nuua's distinctive stage poetics invites us to celebrate the beautiful enigma of existence.
Nuua Company was founded in 2013. It’s an internationally celebrated contemporary circus and visual theatre. On its ten-year journey, Nuua’s award-winning performances have toured in 21 countries.
